Farm House

This property has been in outfitter and professional hunter Nico Els’s family for more than a century. It offers a real authentic farm-style experience. Situated next to the Koonap river, a mere two-and-a-half-hours drive from the nearest airport, the farmhouse is unique and will give you a true country style feeling.

The valleys are filled with kudu and there is plenty bushbuck down in the river beds. Some of the more challenging animal species like mountain reedbuck, baboon, duiker and steenbuck also occur here. But this area can provide you with much more than just hunting. These areas are fantastic for bird watching and hiking and with the river running through the middle of this landscape, even fishing can be a great sport.

In the evenings, guests can enjoy a real South African campfire under the stars while our catering staff prepare a top-class three-course meal. Around the fire, stories are told, stories that will make you laugh and to be remembered for years to come.

If you are looking for an authentic hunting area that will make you come back every year, the farmhouse will make you feel at home!

Assegai Conservancy

In less than an hour-and-a-half's drive from Port Elizabeth airport, you'll find yourself in the middle of the 140,000-acre Assegai conservancy. From dense coastline forest to open plains, you will find everything from blue duiker to buffalo and more than 20 huntable species and birdlife in abundance! This area is home to some of Africa's tiny ten antelope as well as the more sought after Kudu, Bushbuck, Nyala and Bushpig.

When you visit this area, you definitely come for more than just hunting. You come for a holiday in Africa! Here we can offer anything from hunting, Big 5 game drives, elephant interaction, deep-sea fishing and sightseeing around the historical Settler’s City: Grahamstown. All of this within a one hour drive from the main lodge and less than 45-minutes from the Indian ocean. Bring your family and join us for an unforgettable holiday experience!

‘’Canariesfontein’’ (as it is known in Afrikaans), is a unique ranch with a rich history in the heart of the Karoo. Currently owned by Louis and Aldone Müller, Canariesfontein has wildlife and birdlife in abundance. The natural bushman paintings and rock formations are evidence that this area was farmed hundreds of years ago by both the KhoiSan and the very first Voortrekkers.

The house has been refurbished to accommodate hunters and will certainly give you the “homely” feeling. In addition, one of the outbuildings has been upgraded and is now used as the ‘braai’ area. This is where food can be prepared on open fires while hunters share their experiences from the past day’s hunting activities

Canariesfontein, as well as numerous other neighbouring farms, includes large mountains and rocky hills and is, therefore, a 4x4 enthusiast’s paradise. The fantastic views and quietness also make it a great place for mountain bikers and hikers.

If you love the outdoors and are looking for the ultimate Karoo hunting experience, Canariesfontein will blow your mind and leave you breathless for months to come!
